Motor Insurers' Bureau

Approximately 1 in every 20 people in the UK drive a motor vehicle without a valid insurance policy. This means that an estimated one million uninsured people within the UK are currently driving on UK roads.
The Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB) is an independent statutory body coordinated by the government to pay compensation to the victims of untraced hit and run drivers or uninsured drivers.

The Untraced Driver Agreement

Under this agreement the Motor Insurers’ Bureau may award compensation to the victims of untraced drivers for personal injury and for damage to property where the matter has been reported to the police within 5 days of the accident or as soon as possible.

The Uninsured Driver Agreement

Under this agreement the Motor Insurers’ Bureau will comply with any judgements made in court against an uninsured driver. Although they deduct an excess of £300 in these cases, they will contribute towards the Claimant’s legal costs against the uninsured driver defendant.
